Obituaries & Condolences

Elizabeth C. Todd, 96 years old died on September 5th at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.  She was born on May 25, 1918 in Unadilla daughter of Hubert Faye and Olive Simmons Palmiter.   Her childhood was spent in Sherburne and New Berlin and she was a graduate of New Berlin High School. On November 18, 1941 she married Russell W. Todd in Savana, NY.  He died on December 7. 2008.


She and her husband owned and operated the New Berlin Clothes Shop from 1938 to 1987 and Liz ran the business while her husband served in World War II.

She was a member of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she served on the hospitality committee, was a member of the ECS, the sunshine committee and Altar Guild. Liz was very active in the community collecting door to door for the Heart Fund, Cancer Drive, March of Dimes, and selling poppies for the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as a Cub Scout Leader and was a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by three children: R. William (Bill) Jr. & (Carol) Todd of Sebring, Fl., Gerrie (Geraldine) & Douglas Miller of Verona, NY and Michael (Mickey) Todd of New Berlin. Grandchildren are Michael, Steven & Rhonda Todd, Kelly & Peter Thurber, Ryan Miller, Karrie & Damien Southwell , Morgan Todd and  Matthew & Brittany Todd. She is also survived by 9 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews ,and  a sister-in-Law, Jeannine Palmiter.  She was pre-deceased by one son, Charles; one grandson Bradley D. Miller; and brothers Dale and Norman Palmiter.

Funeral services will be at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM with the Very Reverend Charles Taylor assisted by the Reverend Michael P. Todd. The burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in New Berlin. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, September 10 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP in New Berlin. 

Memorial donations may be given to Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, The New Berlin Emergency Squad or any charity of your choice.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember the store very well. I was lee rose and I think Lynn was is Gerrie's class.
They made mothers tough then and you were fortunate to have her for so long, and to have many memories to cherish.
