Obituaries & Condolences

Minnie Swayer, 96 yrs old of Edmeston, NY passed away at Chase Health Care in New Berlin, NY on June 1, 2016 after a long illness.

Minnie Dina Harberts was born on the family farm on Jacobs Rd., Burlington Green, NY to William and Tillie (Tjden) Harberts on February 14, 1920.  She married Cary Roscoe Swayer, Jr. on June 1, 1945. 

Minnie attended school at the Basswood One Room School in Burlington Green.  She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston.

Rock and Minnie Swayer started the “Rock Swayer TV & Radio Repair” business and were later joined in business by their son, David Swayer.  For 62 years, from 1952-2014, she was the first voice most who needed TV or radio repair would hear when calling for service or stopping by the shop for help.  Minnie loved cooking, needlework, gardening, bird watching and most of all, her family.

She is survived by her children; Dina (Manfred) Schmidt of NJ, David Swayer of Edmeston, and John (Laura) Swayer of South New Berlin, NY.  She is also survived by four grandchildren; Jennifer (Brian) Herring, Julie (Daniel) Braeckman, John (Karen) Swayer, and William (Kelly) Schmidt as well as six great grandchildren; Erin & Ethan Herring, Hannah & Carter Swayer and Brandon & Justin Schmidt.

She was predeceased by her husband Roscoe Swayer, her parents, and her siblings; Susie Fitch, Bill Harberts, Tillie Phillips, Hajo Harberts and John Harberts.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

The burial will be held in Union Cemetery, Edmeston, NY.

Deepest condolences on your loss. I have many fond memories of your parents business, showing me tv tubes and the parts (& home visits were particularly exciting > we were at 23 North St. - an address Dina will recognize). May Mrs. Swayer rest in peace.
