Jennie Chapin

Martha B Chapin, 90 yrs. old of Pittsfield, NY passed away on September 29, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

Martha was born on April 20, 1927 in Sauquoit, NY the daughter of Martin Bowee and Katherina Magdalena (Tauss) Davis and step-father, Robert Davis.

Her childhood was spent in Sauquoit, NY where she attended and was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School. 

Martha worked at the Utica Willowvale Bleachery in Chadwicks, NY from 1946-1951, Utica Drop Forge, Clayville, NY from 1951-1954, the A & P Store, New Berlin, NY for 13 years and for the Broome Developmental Center as a home card parent and family care provider from 1975-2013.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin.  Martha was a people person, always greeting everyone with a smile. She was an avid bowler and received the Tri-county bowling association hall of fame award in 2003 for 50 years of league bowling.  Martha also loved to crochet. She made numerous blankets for family and friends.  Also, she was known for her great apple and blackcap pies....potato salad and baked beans

On May 14, 1949 she married Donald R. Chapin who pre-deceased her on January 20, 1969.

She is survived by her daughter; Evelyn Chapin Weis of New Berlin and son; Edward R. & wife Doreen S. Chapin of Pittsfield, NY, grandchildren; Jaime Ann & Jason Reeves, Sandra Elaine Chapin & husband Mike Richards & Christopher Ray & wife Elizabeth Joy Chapin, great grandchild; Luna Noel Chapin and one brother & sister-in-law; Edward & Sandy Davis of West Palm Beach, FL.

She was predeceased by her brothers; Martin, Harold & Robert Bowee and Raymond Davis.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at the funeral home with Pastor George Gallandorm officiating.

The interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta NY 13820.

Evelyn, Eddie & family.... WE are so sorry. Martha was a great lady who enjoyed life. She always had a smile & good word. I enjoyed our times spent on monthly home visits and she took great care of her folks. She certainly lived to a ripe old age and I'm sure she is celebrating with her loved ones at this very minute. She loved her family very much. I know your memories will keep her close to you always. Our love to all, Jim & Phyllis
