Obituaries & Condolences


Helen L. DeBoer, 84 yrs. old of South New Berlin, NY passed away on April 15, 2017 at Chase Nursing Home, New Berlin, NY.

Helen was born on October 21, 1932 in Norwich, NY the daughter of Stewart & Elva Norwood.  Her childhood was spent in the Norwich & Hubbardsville, NY areas.  She was employed by the Norwich Dry Cleaners for 10 years, the Edmeston Principle Life Insurance Company for 10 years and was a bus driver for Mt. Upton and Norwich Central Schools for 20 years.

Her hobbies included gardening, canning, freezing, dancing, working on puzzles and playing piano.  She also enjoyed her monthly trips to Syracuse for dancing and family visits and her annual trip to the NY State Fair.

Helen is survived by her children; Mike & Cheryl DeBoer of Syracuse, NY and Rick & Cathy DeBoer also of Syracuse, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, her step-mother, Betty Palmer, sisters; Sandy & Connie and brothers; Larry (Bonnie) Norwood & Tom (Jamie) Norwood and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Ellery (Doc) DeBoer, her brother, Jerry Norwood, daughter; Kim Steward, granddaughter; Megan and her parents, Stewart & Elva Norwood.

Funeral services will be held on April 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP with Pastor Kurt Funke officiating.

The interment will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, South New Berlin, NY.
