George E. Holbert “Eddie” 81 yrs. old of Edmeston, NY passed away on October 4, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.

George was born on December 31, 1935 in Starlight, PA the son of George Everett & Eleanor (Mallery) Holbert.  His childhood was spent in the Starlight area where he attended a one room schoolhouse.  He was a graduate of Hancock Central School, Hancock, NY.

He was a self-employed dairy farmer in both PA & NY.  He was also a laborer for Celotex and worked as a logger.  George had a real love of horses, especially Tony & Tom.

On August 17, 1957 he married Jean D. Cheresko at the Corpus Cristi Church of Montdale, PA.  They enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife Jean, George is survived by his children; Edward (Elsie) Holbert of Sherburne, David (Sue) Holbert of Burlington Flats, Beverly (late Robert) Fagan of South New Berlin, George Holbert Jr. of Oxford, Joseph (Beverly) Holbert of New Berlin, Carol (Greg) Thomas of Cayuta, Nancy (Bryan) Johnson of Edmeston, Roger (Kristen) Holbert of Sauquoit, Susan (Art Carney) Holbert of Edmeston and Catherine Holbert of Gilboa.  He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren as well as special family members; Cindy Holbert, Deanna Stanton, Wayne Lewis and Linda Eriksen.

He was pre-deceased by his brother Harold, sister-in-law Bernice and son-in-law Robert Fagan.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP, New Berlin, NY.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home with Father Lupa officiating.

The interment will be held in the Edmeston Union Cemetery, Edmeston, NY.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. George was such a nice man. I remember waiting on him and a bunch of his boys at the Deerpath 25 years ago. He would always put a smile on your face, much like his children’s nd grandchildren.
