Obituaries & Condolences

Arthur Iannello, 69, of New Berlin,
died on March 17, 2017, at Chase Memorial Nursing Home. He suffered from Alzheimer’s as a condition related to Downs Syndrome.  He was born on November 11, 1947, in Summit New Jersey, the son of the late Rosario Iannello and Rose (Muzzipapa) Iannello.
He is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ross (Skip) P. Iannello and his wife Carlotta (Gallup) Iannello of New Berlin and William S. Iannello of Gettysburg, PA, eight nieces and nephews and 10 grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Dominick Iannello and sister Julia ( Iannello) Maiurro of Berkeley Heights New Jersey.
Art grew up on a farm in Berkeley Heights New Jersey in the loving care of his parents and brothers and sister.  In 1956 Art moved to a farm in Earlville New York with his parents and brothers Skip and Dominick to be near Willie who bought a farm in Smyrna, New York.  In 1966 Art’s father retired from farming and moved the family back to Berkeley Heights while Skip and Willie bought farms and moved to New Berlin.  After his father died in 1973, Art and his mother eventually moved to New Berlin.   After his mother’s death in 1985, Art joined Skip and Carlotta at their Route 8 home.   For several years he attended Broome Developmental Day-Hab in New Berlin.
Carlotta, Skip and their 5 children devoted their time, love and energy to caring for Art.  They approached his care in a way that made him an integral part of the family.  Everyone who walked in their door could see how happy Art was in this family setting.  Despite his challenges, Art was a loving, caring, sweet person. He loved to sing, dance and play the accordion.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to dress up as “The King.”  If not a king, Art was most certainly a prince and will be missed by all who knew him.   He was born on Veterans Day and died on St. Patrick's Day.
Arrangements are being handled by Dakin Funeral Home in New Berlin.  A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Theresa’s church in New Berlin, March 25th 10am, viewing for family and friends 9am at the funeral home.  Burial will be at St. Theresa’s Cemetery in Summit, New Jersey March 31st.
