Richard Burke Button, 83 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY passed away on August 4, 2020 in Norwich, NY.

Richard was born on October 27, 1936 in the Town of Columbus, NY the son of Miner T. & Virginia (Foster) Button.  His childhood was spent at his home farm in Button City.  He was a graduate of New Berlin Central School.  He served in the US Army for 2 years, worked as a dairy farmer for 30 years and retired from the US Postal Service in August 1998 after 18 years of service.

Richard was a member of the Future Farmers of America, Eastern Milk Producers Assoc., Eastern Artificial Breeders Assoc., Cornell Cooperative Extension, Chenango County Soil Conservation, American Postal Workers Union, Boy Scouts of America – Life Rank Order of the Arrow, the Columbus Quarter Church Choir, the Baptist Youth Fellowship and served as a councilman for the Town of Columbus for 8 years.

On December 29, 1956 Richard married Nancy A. (Bice) Button.  She survives him.

In addition to his wife Nancy, Richard is survived by his children; Mark and his wife Bonnie of Hubbardsville, NY, Edward of West Edmeston, NY, Jeffrey of North Brookfield, Timothy and his wife Colleen of West Edmeston, NY and Sue of Oxford, NY, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his siblings; Arthur Button, Roberta Huyck and Foster Button.

Private funeral services will be held for the family on Monday, August 10, 2020.

Friends may join the family for the burial service to be held in the West Edmeston Cemetery at 12:00 PM on Monday, August 10 with Pastor Len Tyler officiating.  Social distancing will be practiced and masks will be required.  Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated.

Nancy was a friend & fellow traveler in our younger days.
One trip to N.Y.C. visit Statue of Liberty, & Also Twin Towers. Nancy did not like bodies of water, went by boat to the statue, & high places. twin towers was highest in N.Y.C. Still & all it was a fun day. Richard, you could not find a better person to talk to, always acknowledge your visit and interested in your talks. He will be truly missed. My best to Nancy.
