Obituaries & Condolences

Rosario, Virecci-Fana, 82 yrs. old of McDonough, NY passed away on December 17, 2020 in Norwich, NY.  

Rosario was born on May 25, 1938 in Gioiosa Marea Sicily the son of Giuseppe and Marianna (Cusmano) Virecci-Fana.  His childhood was spent in Gioiosa Marea.  He served in the Italian Navy aboard the Amerigo Vespucci and then became a policeman in Milan Italy.  In 1962 he came to America and married Helen Von Tiesenhausen in 1963.  He was self-employed as a first class painter & decorator.  They settled in New York City where they stayed until 2005.  In 1995 they bought 25 acres of land in McDonough.  Their son Dean moved to McDonough in 1995 and his parents joined him following Rosario’s retirement. 

He loved to build things, spend time with his family and play cornhole with his son Dean.

Rosario is survived by his wife Helen, daughters and their husbands: Maryann and Christopher Shea, Elizabeth and Greg Davis and Catharyn-Rose and Ali Alrabie.  Rosario is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  In addition, he is survived by many relatives in Italy and Switzerland including his sister Maria, brother Virgilio, and late brother Costante and their families who he dearly loved.  He was predeceased by his son, Dean.

Private services will be held at the Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville, NY
