Don was a student of mine at SUNY Oneonta and a favorite. He and I together did some early, ground-breaking work on the obscure subject of phytolith analysis applied to archaeology. We co-authored and published an academic paper on this analysis with Don doing the laboratory end of things. We stayed in touch over the years, usually bumping into each other on Main Street. I don't think I ever quite figured him out, but he made me laugh. Don was a good soul. My very sincere condolences to his family.
