Obituaries & Condolences

Gerald Russell Ramey, 91 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his dogs and family on December 29, 2020.

“Gerry” was born at Sydenham Hospital in Manhattan, NY on November 26, 1929.  The Ramey family moved to New Berlin, NY in 1936 when they purchased a local farm.  He left school in the 9th grade to work as a dairy farmer on the family farm.

He is survived by his sister, Myra Vail and cousins Alan, “Joey”, and Janet.

Gerry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  He stayed on the farm to care for his parents in the house he grew up in.  He was a pleasant man.  An avid reader, he enjoyed comic books and even had a few of his own published in the BCE Journal Chronicle.  After a house fire, Gerry and his cousin worked to rebuild and restore his comic book collection by piecing new & old strips together and drawing in the missing pieces.  Gerry was a simple man who lived the life he wanted.  He was a gentle soul, loved his dogs, pet - “the bull”, reading the newspaper, old treasures, trips to thrift stores and his home.  He was a true resident of New Berlin.

Gerry’s sister Myra always made sure he had the things he needed and she enjoyed her daily chats with him.  Myra would like to thank his neighbors for all of the support they have provided to Gerry over the years from caring for the bull, returning the dog, plowing driveways, bringing supplies and chats.  Thank you.  Gerry was blessed to have his family and neighbors.  As well, it was a true blessing to know Gerry, he will be missed.

May we remember Gerry when traveling Ramey Road.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

I remember Gerry fondly, as a young child I so enjoyed visiting him and his family at the farm every summer.
He would organize activities for us to keep busy while doing all the chores of a dairy farmer. Gerry and his sister Myra were so loving and fun to be with. It definitely stays in my memory as a wonderful time in my childhood. He will be profoundly missed by every one who knew him.
