Obituaries & Condolences

Constance "Connie" Austin of Skaneateles, NY passed from this life surrounded by her family on February 24, 2022. Connie grew up in New Berlin, NY. where she met her husband., Adelbert "Swede" Austin. They were married on May 24, 1959 and together raised their 3 daughters in New Berlin. Connie worked as the Medical Records Director at Chase Memorial Nursing home for over 30 years. Once retired she enjoyed spending many hours with her granddaughters, as well as opening her home to become the neighborhood "Granny." She accepted anyone who walked in her front door, welcoming them unconditionally. She was a firecracker with quite the sense of humor and loved showering others with her famous pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and knitted blankets. 


In 2015, Connie moved to Skaneateles to be closer to her family. Connie became active in St James Episcopal Church, serving on the altar guild. One of her favorite activities was volunteering at the St. James thrift shop.


Connie is survived by her daughters, Shelley Kane, Kelly (Chris) Uyehara and Michelle (Daniel) Senn, her granddaughters Allyson (Nicholas) Nasholts, Katelyn (Luke) MacDougall, Traci(Andrew) Leubner, Emily Kane, Siena and Jordan Senn, as well as great grandchildren, Noelani, Kaden, Kamaile, Levi and Austin. In addition to her immediate family, Connie is survived by her brothers, Thomas and William,and her sisters-in-law,  Elaine Austin and June Hardy, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Adelbert Austin, brother Donald "Dick", son in law, Don Kane and sister in law, Mary Beaumont.


A Celebration of  Life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11am at the Dakin Funeral Home, in New Berlin NY. Following the service, the family will host a luncheon at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church , in New Berlin, NY. The family requests that guests please wear a mask, taking covid precautions. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Connie's memory to Springbrook Community Homes, 105 Campus Drive Oneonta, NY 13820 - Attention Stacey Grady or the SPCA of Chenango County.
