Obituaries & Condolences

Janice L. Coveny, 66 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY passed away at her home on the evening of July 9, 2022, with her three children by her side.  She was the third daughter born to George & Bea Kukulech on October 17, 1955, in New Berlin.  She was raised on the family farm in Pittsfield, where she became a compassionate, hard-working woman.  It was at the farm where she met Ken Coveny.  They were married on March 13, 1976, during a snowstorm in Cuyler, NY.  They were married for 23 years until his death on January 20, 1999.

Janice, also known as Mom, Ma, Momma, Poncho, and Jan, went to New Berlin Central School, graduating in 1973.  She was so proud to be in the band and color guard with her sisters and friends.  She worked at the Shoe Factory, The United Methodist Home and retired in December after 16 years at Amphenol Aerospace where she was a machinist.

Mom loved cooking and feeding everyone.  Hosting holidays and Tea & Crumpets at her house made her so happy.  She loved lilies and took such pride in her lawn and all of her flowers.  She wanted to stay home and sit on her back deck and just relax.  She was not much of a traveler as she always had bad luck and mishaps with delays or weather cancellations!  She watched all sports and would always watch the Olympics.

Janice is survived by her children; her baby boy, George & Monique Coveny of Zephyrhills, FL, daughters, Bea & Charlie Murphy of Pittsfield, NY, Mickey & Andy Orzeck of New Berlin, NY and bonus daughter, Lynn & John DeForest of Norwich, NY, grandsons; Gabriel & Christian Coveny, Matt & Kyle Bennet and Tegan DeForest and great grandson; Xaviar Bennett.  She is also survived by her sisters; Deb & Jim Eccleston, Sue & Tim Thompson and Kathy & Dale Ives as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP, 17 North Main Street, New Berlin, NY 13411.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dick Anderson officiating at the First United Methodist Church, 51 S. Main St., New Berlin, NY.

Janice & Kenny will be buried together at the Exeter Center Cemetery, Exeter, NY at a later date.

Mom loved flowers and we ask that if you prefer, please plant a tree, or donate to the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin or the Pittsfield Fire Department in her memory.

Janice will be missed. What a wonderful woman that I had the pleasure of working with and becoming friends with. Janice was smart, witty, and funny. She loved to tell me stories about her family. She loved family more than anything. Her children made her so proud. She loved telling me about family dinners, boasting about her grandson's size and ability to play football. I heard stories about her dad, her grandparents and neighbors. Stories about farm life and her flowers. Janice really loved her life and those in it. I will remember our chats forever. You are all in my heart and as you mourn from today on, please know, your mom loves you more than life itself and will be with you through eternity. I will miss her immensely.
