Susan B. Parry, 71 yrs. old, of New Berlin, NY passed away peacefully on July 29, 2023, after a valiant 15-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer. She was surrounded by her family.
Susan was born on July 8, 1952, in New Berlin, NY, the daughter of Raymond and Maude (Bingham) Nelson. Sue often recalled fond memories of her childhood on the farm in Columbus, NY, and later, New Berlin. She was a 1970 graduate of New Berlin Central School and earned her associate degree from SUNY Morrisville.
On September 18, 1976, Donn Parry finally made an honest woman out of Suzy. While they spent half of their marriage (and most of their money) raising their two children, “empty nesting” finally gave them the chance to spend time together. They enjoyed travelling all over the country, seeing beautiful sites, and catching up with long-distance family and friends. They also enjoyed cutting a rug in the local dance classes.
Sue was a well-loved member of the staff of Unadilla Valley Central School for 24 years. Colleagues and students remember her for her warm smile, quick wit, and genuine care – she was a dear friend and, for many, like a second mom.
Sue was a wonderful mother to her children and son-in-law, but an even better grandma/nana to her five grandchildren, whom she said she will miss terribly. She was grateful to have survived cancer long enough to meet, know, and fall in love with each of her grandchildren.
While Sue claimed she lacked artistic talent, her true artistry showed in the beautiful tapestries she wove in her flower beds and the warm and welcoming esthetic she created throughout her home. She was an avid reader and a crack shot at Jeopardy. Sue was always ready with yummy baked goods, craft projects, field trips, a good book, sarcasm, (many) tears, hugs, and a wicked sense of humor – her family and friends have all been left with indelible memories and the lasting influence of a great role model.
In addition to her husband Donn, Sue is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Wacha and Richard Magomu-Wacha of Columbia, MD, and their children, Frances, Grace and Moses Wacha; and her son, Thomas Parry of New Berlin, and his children, Savannah and Alex Parry. She is also survived by her sister, Signe Nelson (Frederic Razafindrainibe), her brother, Robert Nelson (Rebecca), and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Christine Stephenson.
There will be no calling hours or funeral. A celebration of life will be held next summer (2024) on a date to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made in Sue’s honor to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 33-39 Court St., Norwich, NY 13815.

Even though i never met her in person, we chatted a bit a long time ago and I knew my brother (her son-in-law) had got the best sexons chance to a mom. It is unexplainable how it feels to lose a mom, so to my sister in love (Ann) and the whole family and friends, many hugs prayers and my condolences.

She was an excellent teacher aid. I’ve known her since kindergarten and I'm now a sophomore. I’ll never forget when I’m walking around town and she always greeted me with a huge smile and would tell me stories about when I was little. She has such a kind and genuine heart and she will be greatly missed

Donn and Family,
Although I am not sure we ever met, I wanted you to know how very sorry I am for your loss. Sue was one of the colleagues I most enjoyed seeing first thing in the morning. We would usually share a riddle, a couple of jokes (clean or otherwise), some political diatribe and a little dish. She and I shared a sense of humor, similar sarcasm and political leaning. We will be making a donation to Hospice in her memory. Remember she was loved dearly by many of her coworkers, me included.
