Fred Cottrell

d. May 21, 2024

Fred Charles Cottrell 82 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY, passed away on May 21, 2024, at Chase Nursing, Home.   Fred was born on May 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Fred’s very early years were spent in Scranton with his beloved big brother, Ralph, and many extended family members.   He always remembered them and was anxious for visits and communications throughout his adult years.

At a young age, Fred became a New Yorker, but Pennsylvania always remained dear to him.   After Fred’s schooling years he found his way, establishing new friends and eventually claimed his spot as a family member of over four decades with Charlie and Nadine Wust.   He loved welcoming new babies home and eventually the grandchildren as well.   When there was a party at home the kids migrated to Fred’s room where music and snacks flowed.   As the girls got older and started going out the door without Mom or Dad, Fred quizzed them the hardest. When they’d be home, where they would be going, with who, and how come?   He waited up.

Fred was blessed by so many loving him.   Outside of his home, extended family and many ARC staff expressed their love for him over the decades.   We were all blessed to be loved by him.   Fred could be a challenge when things were not set his way but his endearing and superb humor made it impossible to be mad at him.   If you were called a Ham Bone, Turkey Bone, or any other kind of bone, it was honorary.   He never forgot a face or name, and always took an opportunity to catch up.   His funny comments and quips will always be part of our memories.

During his stay at Chase Nursing Home, Fred repeated a recruitment of fans.   Again, people expressed their enjoyment of his humor.   He made new friends.   We are grateful for the care he received.

A memorial service will be held on Friday May 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY.
