Helen Marie Zachow Dane, 79 yrs. old of Burlington Flats, NY passed away at home surrounded by her family after a brief illness on September 27, 2015.

Helen was born on January 5, 1936 in New York, NY, the daughter of Frederick and Isabel Zachow.  Her childhood was spent with her brothers and sister on their family farm in Hartwick, NY.  After graduating from Edmeston Central School, she went to work for the state in Albany.  She married Lawrence Dane in 1956.

Helen was an avid lover of animals of all shapes and sizes and was known as the “duck lady” in Burlington Flats as she could be seen chasing her brood of ducks and geese around the yard.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Elliott of Burlington Flats, NY, son; Timothy Dane (Jenette) of Bangor, ME , son; Thomas Dane (Joette) Burlington Flats, NY, son; Robert Dane of Bainbridge, NY, daughter; Leslie Wichtman of Waterloo, NY and son; Christopher Dane (Jennifer) of Victor, NY as well as 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by brothers; William (Sylvia) Zachow of Chittenango, NY, Robert (Tina) Zachow of Hartwick, NY and sister; Isabel (David) Ballinger of Virginia Beach, VA and her beloved dog Rufuss.

She was predeceased by her son Arthur Dane and brothers; Frederick & Richard Zachow.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Burlington Green Cemetery, Burlington, NY with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating.
