Eldora Gregory, 97 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY passed away on October 7, 2014 at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center where she had resided for the past six months.

Eldora Elma Weinman Gregory was born on March 6, 1917 to Walter and Elma Tewell Weinman in Seibert, Colorado where they were homesteaders.  Eldora’s family moved to New Berlin in 1930 and settled on Shacktown Mtn.  The girls attended the one room school for a couple of years. They then moved to the Morris Turnpike and went to the Hoboken School.  Eldora had to walk or ride the milk truck to New Berlin to attend high school where she graduated in 1936, second in her class!  She went to nursing school at Binghamton City hospital for 1 year but quit as she was lonesome for the farm.

Eldora married Stephen D. Gregory, a former classmate, in 1938.  She was a housewife and helper on the farm which she enjoyed very much.

Five sons were born to Stephen and Eldora; Gerald (Helen) of Mt. Upton, Delbert (Kathy) of Belen, New Mexico, Ray (Linda) of Norwich, Herbert (Sandy) of Homer and Everett (Victoria) of Pittsfield.  Stephen passed away in 1983.

She is also survived by a sister; Lillian Holl, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister; Ada Tallman and brothers-in-law; Ray Tallman and Paul Holl .

Eldora lived in Chase Apartments in New Berlin for nearly 30 years.  She worked for Chase Nursing Home for over 10 years and kept busy knitting, volunteering and baking cookies.

“Eldora wrote this obituary about 10 years ago!” She was a “take charge lady”. We will miss you Mom!

A memorial service for Eldora will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, NY with her granddaughter the Reverend Amy Gregory, officiating.  There will be a time to greet the family from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin or the Pittsfield Fire Department.
