Shirley Hilts

Shirley Hilts, 80 yrs. old of the Town of New Berlin passed away on July 15, 2024, at her home in West Edmeston.

Shirley was born on January 31, 1944, in Norwich, NY, the daughter of Edwin & Margaret (Marks) Cummings.   Her childhood was spent in New Berlin where she attended New Berlin Central School before attending college in Syracuse, NY.

Over the years, Shirley worked at several jobs including the Norwich Walmart.   She attended the Coumbus Quarters Church.   Shirley loved her family dearly and enjoyed gardening, holidays and baking.   She rarely had a bad word to say about anyone and was known for always being late.

Shirley is survived by her children, Holly Hilts of NY, Sheila Hilts of Brandon, FL, Barbara Hilts of PA, Freida Lyons of New Berlin, Dwayne Hilts of Brookfield, Benjamin Hilts of West Edmeston, NY, and adopted daughter Lora Bumpus, as well as multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.   She is also survived by her siblings, Bill (Mary) Cummings, Pat (Carl) Cleimen, Judy Ray, Rick (Donna) Cummings, sister-in-law, Joan Cummings, foster children; Neveah, Joseph, and Remmington Hughs and Nicholas Hughs, her shining star.

She was predeceased by her son Scott Hilts, Grand Daughter Shylabeth R. Adams and brother John Cummings.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP, New Berlin with Judy McCall officiating.   Calling hours will be from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
