Lillian Holl

d. June 29, 2020

Lillian Holl 101, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center on June 29, 2020 where she had resided for the past six years.

Lillian was born on May 19, 1919 to Walter and Elma Tewell Weinmann in Yellow Jacket, Colorado. Along with her two sisters, the family moved east when Lilly was 11. They moved to New Berlin and settled on Shacktown Mtn. where the girls attended the one room schoolhouse for a couple of years.  They then moved to the Morris Turnpike and went to the Hoboken school. The girls had to walk or ride the milk truck to New Berlin to attend high school where she graduated from New Berlin Central School in 1938.  Lillian met her future husband Paul Holl when they were in 7-8 grade in school. In 1943 Paul became a Marine and Lillian enlisted in the Navy. In Lil’s words, “I was in the hospital corps because I always wanted to be a nurse but because I did not have Latin, I couldn’t get into nursing so they put me into working in the hospital as a nurses’s aid.” While serving in the Navy she specialized in x-ray training which she truly enjoyed.  She was proud of her career as an x-ray technician in later life at Chenango Memorial Hospital.

In 1946    Lillian married her beloved Pau Holl who predeceased her in 1985. They had two daughters Mary Larrabee (David) of New Berlin and Marjorie Fitzgerald  of Denton Texas. The family lived on their dairy farm in Pittsfield where Lil helped with their Holstein & Brown Swiss cattle as well as raising chickens and delivering the eggs.  Her quote “I shipped brown eggs to Boston and white eggs to New York.  I didn’t stay in it when it got to be 10 cents because I couldn’t pay for the feed”
Lillian was a member of the First United Methodist church of New Berlin, NY.

Lillian  is survived by her daughters, her granddaughters, Sarah B. Miles,  Samantha Hubbard, grandsons, Eric Larrabee, Jeremy Fitzgerald, great granddaughters Jordyn Hubbard, Lillian Miles, great grandsons Jayden Hubbard, Jaxon Miles, many nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband Lillian was predeceased by her sisters and spouses Eldora Gregory (Stephen) Ada Tallman (Raymond).

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Norwich Rehab for the loving care  of “Aunt Lil”, “LillyBean”,  we know you will miss “Momma”!

Due to COVID-19 there will be a memorial service at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church New Berlin, NY.
