Loretta Cornell

Loretta Cornell, born on July 16, 1935, in Pittsfield, NY, passed away on March 30, 2025. A cherished member of her community Loretta lived a fulfilling life marked by dedication to both her career and family.

Loretta's professional journey began at Conn Instrument, where she worked from 1954 to 1957, before moving on to the Technical Appliance Corporation until 1983. Her passion for entrepreneurship blossomed when she established The Eagle's Nest, a beloved flower and variety store, which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1996. Her contributions to the local economy and her creativity in business endeared her to many in New Berlin and the surrounding areas.

Educated at the New Berlin Central School, Loretta held a long-standing commitment to her community and faith. Raised Baptist, she became an active member of the Columbus Community Church, where she was baptized by Steve Reese. Her spiritual values guided her in every aspect of her life.

Loretta is survived by her children: Charles (Beverly) Cornell of Norwich, William (Jean) Cornell of New Berlin, Deborah Perrigo of Williamsburg, VA, and Ricky (Rita) Cornell of New Berlin. She leaves behind a large and loving family that includes 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, her brother Thomas Grant of Harpersville, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, continue her legacy.

Loretta is remembered fondly not only by her family but also by a wide circle of friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and kindness. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Cornell, her son James Cornell, her son-in-law Duane Perrigo, as well as her parents and brothers, including Charles Grant of New Berlin and Lewis Grant of Elkhart, Indiana. She also mourned the loss of her grandson Jeremy Hoag of New Berlin.

Visitation will be held on April 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Dakin Funeral Home located at 17 N Main St, New Berlin, NY 13411. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM, concluding with a Graveside Service at 1:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin, NY 13411.
