Mary Lou Steerey, a vibrant soul known for her outgoing and bubbly personality, passed away peacefully in Newark, NY, on August 27, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on June 12, 1936, in Rome, NY, she lit up the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.
Mary, affectionately known as "Mary Lou" to her friends and family, cultivated a warm atmosphere wherever she went. Mornings spent with her were truly a joy, marked by her loving and caring nature. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel like a friend, greeting each person with open arms and often a heartfelt hug. Those who encountered Mary Lou could not help but be drawn to her generous spirit and her zest for life.
She took great pleasure in her hobbies, which included a deep love for animals, knitting, needlepoint, arts and crafts, and dancing. Mary Lou had a particular talent for creating beautiful scarves, lovingly made for everyone she cherished. She shared many happy moments with her beloved sister, Margaret Steerey, with whom she enjoyed outings, especially to get ice cream. She found joy watching the cows and horses across the road, creating fond memories that will be cherished forever.
Mary Lou’s legacy is further enriched by her parents, Lewis Steerey and Edna Vincent, who have predeceased her. .
Her life will be celebrated with a visitation on September 5, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at Dakin Funeral Home in New Berlin, NY led by Pastor Judy McCall. Friends and family are invited to honor the memory of this extraordinary woman who brought so much joy and love to the world.
Mary Lou Steerey will be deeply missed, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life.
