Frederick Pope, 88 yrs. old formerly of North Main Street, New Berlin died Saturday, May 9, 2020 in Syracuse, NY.
Fred was born on October 28, 1931 in New Berlin, NY to Sidney & Arlouine (Gould) Pope. He was a graduate of New Berlin Central School, CCBI in Syracuse and Morrisville Agricultural and Technical Institute. Fred went on to be a Corporal in the Korean War.
After the war he married Susan Cooke, who predeceased him in 2017 after 62 years of marriage. They had four children; Annette (Lee) Benson of Homer NY, Richard (Mindy) Pope of Oneonta, NY, Robert (Christopher Raquedon) Pope of Alexandria, VA and Diana Pope of Franklin, NY.
Fred owned and operated Pope Bros. Garage in New Berlin and then the New Berlin NAPA store.
Over the years he served as a Village Trustee, a Deacon of the Columbus Quarter Church, a Trustee of the Columbus Corners Cemetery and a founding member of the New Berlin Sportsman Club of Beaver River. He was a Mason, member of the New Berlin Fire Department and belonged to the American Legion.
In addition to his children, Fred is survived by 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
