Charles Smith

Charles R. Smith, 94 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY passed away on September 15, 2022, at Chase Nursing Home, New Berlin, NY.

Charles was born on September 15, 1928, in Acup, WV to Clyde T. Smith and Myrtle A. (Wilburn) White. His childhood was spent in the hills of West Virginia. On November 17, 1947, he married Kreszenz (Steininger) Smith in Germany. She predeceased him on February 18, 2005.

After moving to New Berlin in 1954, Charles worked at Dairylea milk plant and was a farm hand for Steve Gregory. He later worked in Morris, NY at the foundry of Charlie Lay.

He is survived by his children; Dora (Bob) Kirk of Edmeston, Dexter (JoAnne) Smith of New Berlin, Charles (Ann) Smith of Wethersfield, CT, Rex (Lucia) Smith of Edmeston, Darlene (Ted) Welch of New Berlin, Donna Smith Miller of Norwich and Clarence (Laurie Smith of New Berlin as well as 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and his sister, Virginia “Jenny” Watts of WV.

He was predeceased by his siblings; Clarence, Pat, Harold (Whimpy), Donald (Popeye), Freda Georgino and Leila (Sissy). He was also predeceased by 1 grand child and 1 great grandchild.
