Rita Marie Stevens, 73 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY entered into eternal rest on Sunday November 22, 2015 at her home after a brief illness.

Rita was born on January 15, 1942 in Norwich, NY the daughter of the late Herbert & Cora May (Donnelly) Stevens. On July 29, 1960 she was married to Kenneth Stevens Sr.

Rita was employed by the Norwich Shoe Company and later worked for 15 years as a cook at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich until her retirement.

In her spare time, Rita enjoyed going to play bingo, garage sales and most of all spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rita will always be remembered for her heart of gold and all of the special Sunday meals including chicken and biscuits, mac-n-cheese, scalloped potatoes and ham and many more.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ken Stevens Sr. of New Berlin, four sons; Kenneth Stevens Jr. (Beth Jasewicz) of Little Falls, Douglas Stevens (Deb Sutherlin) of Johnson City, Michael Stevens of New Berlin and Dennis Stevens also of New Berlin as well as a special son whom she raised as her own; Michael Coffyn and his wife Rachel of Mount Vision. She is also survived by 7 sisters; Catherine Come of SC, Dorothy (Carl) Marrone of Oxford, Doris Perceal of Norwich, Retha (Moe) Wakefield of Oxford, Leona Brown of South New Berlin, and Diana (Billy) Bennett of WV and 3 brothers; Hubert Stevens of Oxford, Herbert Stevens of Norwich and Norman (Pat) Stevens of New Berlin as well as 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Family and friends may pay their respects on December 5, 2015 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY. A celebration of life and sharing of memories of Rita will follow at the South New Berlin Fire Department.

Contributions may be made in Rita’s memory to the Chenango County Hospice or the New Berlin Emergency Squad.
