Joseph P. Urbanak Sr., 86 yrs old of New Berlin, NY passed away on February 26, 2014 at his home.

Joseph was born on July 22, 1927 in Beacon, NY the son of Joseph John & Anna (Bump) Urbanak and step mother, Helen Urbanak.  His childhood was spent in the Beacon, NY area where he attended the Beacon School District.

He served in the United States Navy Seabees in the South Pacific Arena during WWII from 1945-1946 receiving three medals for his service.  He then served in the United States National Guard until 1954.

On September 2, 1950, Joseph married Marion Mitchell who predeceased him on February 14, 1998.

Joseph retired from the NYS Park Police after reaching the rank of sergeant and in May of 1986 moved to New Berlin.

He was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church of New Berlin and was the first member to join the Riverbend Golf Course in 1990.  He was an amateur radio operator who truly enjoyed the ham radio, fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening and digging for antique bottles.

He is survived by his children; Anna Marie (Edwin) Diedrich of Beacon, NY, JoAnn M. (Thomas) Benson of New Berlin, NY, Joseph Paul Urbanak, Jr. of Wappingers Falls, NY, Paul J. (Amy) Urbanak of New Berlin and Lillian (Joe) Butor of Highland, NY as well as 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister; Patricia Barrett of Cornwall on the Hudson, NY and brother; Robert (Joan) Urbanak of Wappingers Falls, NY.

He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Urbanak.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, New Berlin, NY with Father Lester Smith officiating.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY.

The interment will be held in the Scribner Cemetery, New Berlin, NY
