Donald Earle Weaver, 92, of South New Berlin
passed away peacefully on Sunday March 19th, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY after a short illness.
Born February 15th, 1925 in Jefferson, NY, Donald was the son of William and Eloise (Danforth) Weaver. He and his 4 siblings spent their childhood on the farm learning the family business. Farming was in his blood as his parents and grandparents were all farmers. He attended Jefferson Central School, where he was an honor student. In high school he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, before graduating in 1944. He was a member of the Schoharie County 4H Club showing cows at several county fairs, even exhibiting at the NY State Fair.
On July 23rd, 1949 he married Virginia Arline Bugbee in Oneonta, NY. They were married for 67 years. She predeceased him four months ago, on November 14th, 2016.
He had a couple jobs off the farm, working at Scintilla in Sidney, NY (now Amphenol) and in Real Estate for a few years. Whether he was driving tractor trailers, hauling milk to NYC, running his own farm, or doing custom work for other farmers, he was always drawn back to his first passion: Farming! He was a hard working, honest and humble man; always willing to lend a helping hand
to those in need.
He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and the Schoharie County 4H Club showing cows at several county fairs, even exhibiting at the NY State Fair.
Donald is survived by his six children: James & Terri Weaver, Donna & Dale
Brooker, Carol Weaver, and Judy & Don Hendrickson all of South New Berlin, Rose Weaver & Mark Beebe of Oxford, and Sharon & Ryan Cook of New Berlin in addition to many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, a brother Walter & Connie Weaver of Little Falls, NY.
Donald was predeceased by his wife Virginia, his parents William and Eloise, two brothers Charles and Frank Weaver, and a sister Gertrude Burnett.
Donald enjoyed spending time with his family putting puzzles together, or playing solitaire. He was an exceptionally accomplished Checker player and would beat anyone that challenged him, albeit humbly. He will be missed dearly and the family is comforted knowing he is reunited with his wife.
Friends may call from 5 to 7pm, Saturday March 25th, at Dakin Funeral Home LP of New Berlin. A funeral service will be held Sunday March 26th at 2pm at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Decker of the South New Berlin Baptist Church officiating. The interment will be held at later date.
