About Dakin Funeral Home LP

Their son Richard and his wife Susan, both licensed funeral directors, continued the tradition

and came into the business in the 1960’s after graduating from the Simmons Embalming School in Syracuse.


Thomas Dakin Ackerman, a graduate of Herkimer Community College and Simmons School of Embalming in 1988,

is the fifth generation in our family owned business.




The Dakin Funeral Home, located at 17 North Main Street, New Berlin, NY was built in 1835 by Harry DeForest, an early settler. With its Adam Colonial five window flat front architecture style it features a circular staircase in the front entrance. The funeral home offers a warm and comfortable setting for a funeral service and has the convenience of a parking lot nearby. The historic structure houses the oldest continuing business in New Berlin.


The Dakin Funeral Home is a member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association, Inc. which is the statewide trade association representing the funeral service industry. Over 800 funeral homes located throughout the state are members. The association has been in existence for over 100 years and its mission is “to enhance the environment in which our members operate and to promote the highest standards of funeral service to the public”.


Our firm has 138 years of experience of serving the community with compassion and dignity. Our mission is to provide professional and personalized services that honor the lives of the departed.
